The Giro de Cassilis is an event organsied by the Cassilis District Development Group (CDDG) and Upper Hunter Shire Council. The purpose of the event is to encourage bicycle tourism to Cassilis, promote the benefits of cycling to the Upper Hunter Community and to showcase the Cassilis area to visitors and Upper Hunter residents.

OBJECTIVES
The aim of this cycling event is to:
1.⁠ ⁠promote Cassilis as a destination for cycling tourism, particularly gravel cycling.
2.⁠ ⁠provide the local community with another form of entertainment for their social calendar
3.⁠ ⁠encourage visitors to come to Cassilis to contribute towards the local economy.
4.⁠ ⁠give local community groups an opportunity to fundraise during the event.
5.⁠ ⁠To give cyclists in the Upper Hunter an event that they can participate in without having to travel too far

Giro de Cassilis is a not-for-profit event. The ticket sales from the events go towards the following vital Cassilis community organisations:
• The Merriwa Rescue Squad – Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA) NSW
• Merriwa River Rural Fire Services (RFS)
• Cassilis District Development Group (CDDG)
• NSW RFS – Cassilis Brigade
• Cassilis Public School
